Bankability

So Will Smith has topped the list of Hollywood’s most bankable stars, yet again.  Read the details here.

This story is predictable and boring so I want to look forward- let’s talk bankable stars down the road.  Who is the next big thing?  Someone suggested Sam Worthington today.  It’s a great call since the Terminator Salvation star will soon be seen in James Cameron’s Avatar & the Clash of the Titans remake.  I still think Karl Urban (Bones in the new Star Trek) is gonna be huge.  I’ve also heard Chris Pine, Justin Long and the guys from The Hangover are ones to watch in the next few years.  Let me know your thoughts…

HUGE concert news today- veteran electronic artists & soundscape pioneers The Orb are coming to the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver on June 16th!  Tickets are on sale at Zulu & Highlife (or Ticketmaster).  These guys are seriously brilliant- they’re promoting their latest album The Dream (pictured above).  I urge everyone to check it out!

Also…Brilliant article in The New York Times on how James Cameron’s new movie Avatar (set for release December 18th) may change filmmaking forever.  Check it out here.

Love this story…Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley character from the Alien movies has topped a British poll (Sky Movies) on the “Ultimate Action Hero”.  She beat out the likes of Arnie, Chuck Norris, Sly Stallone, Segal & Van Damme!  I was thrilled when I read this and we had some fun with it on BT.  I truly love the Alien series (even have the tattoo to prove it) for so many reasons, one of them being the fact the Sigourney’s character represented the first female action hero in movies.  She invested so much in the roles in the four movies and was even nominated for an Oscar in James Cameron’s Aliens.  In fact, check out the picture below-

Fans of the second movie will recall when Newt is stuck in the alien nest and Ripley rips apart the goo and frees her.  Sigourney Weaver actually tore her hands up while filming the sequence (the material was made of fiberglass) but she kept in character and finished the scene- now that’s acting!

If you’re a fan of the franchise you must pick up the Quadrilogy…

Essential viewing!  Sorry for nerding out today
