Yes…I was an Earls Girl…

We all had jobs prior to our current careers (some of you maybe still looking for your long time job) – I filed papers for the department of education (bor-ing), I was a “winks owl” Mascot (like from the Mac’s stores – why do people like to attack mascots??), I worked at the GAP (I don’t even like folding my own clothing!), and I was an “Earl’s Girl”.

What makes a great job?

Feeling valued is on the top of my list – but it doesn’t hurt to have a job where you also get to have alot of fun! Thanks to all of you I have that experience everyday on Breakfast Television!

As a former Earl’s employee I was recently interviewed for an internal Blog for Earl’s Restaurants… check it out here.

Food Finds!

Many of us have had this happen, where you are at a restaurant, enjoying your meal when you find something that is NOT supposed to be there. You know, hair in your pasta, a slug in your salad or a stray noodle in your mashed potatoes.  As disturbing as it can be, often it can be explained away…even the high end restaurants can have a foodie faux pas.

There are a few things that are TOO strange though – you know – a fingernail  or even the finger that was apparently found in a bowl of Chili purchased at a fast food restaurant . But what about a staple?!?!!? How does THAT happen? Well it did to our producer Genevieve today as she was enjoying her noodle salad -

Thankfully she didn’t actually BITE it – or worse yet, swallow it. What is the right thing to do?  I say, call the manager and inform them. In my opinion, stuff happens but it’s how the manager deals with it that is important. In this case the manager indicated that the salad would be thrown away, apologized and offered a refund – what more can they do? This response is acceptable to me (mind you, it didn’t happen to me) but some may never be able to get over the incident. Luckily, there are a lot of places to go and eat!

I have had a couple of members in my extended family fight the battle. Some who had beaten it, some who continue to fight, and some who fought hard but lost.

On Breakfast Television you will notice that today, we are are wearing pretty yellow flower pins. April is Daffodil Month and  today is Daffodil Day for the Canadian Cancer Society, BC and Yukon and on Breakfast Television, we are showing our support!

Every three minutes, another Canadian is diagnosed with Cancer- perhaps you know someone.

You can help, show your support by wearing a daffodil.

Keeping busy during spring break

Ahh yes.  It is spring break once again for many kids across the province.  This means the young ones have more time on their hands.

We kept a bunch of them busy this morning as we hung out at The Granville Island Toy Company in Vancouver.  After the kids played with a number of toys they became models.  Here is a look at a very unique fashion show.  Check it out!

Going once…going twice…sold!

Ahhh yes.  Actually,  at Maynards’ Auction House in Vancouver the auctioneer says, “Final holding?”  Then the antique or fine art goes to the last bidder.

What a place this is over on Main Street in Vancouver.  Inside Maynards’ Auction House are items from all over the world with a combined value of around 3 million dollars.  There is a rather nice painting inside that is expected to be scooped up for $250,000.

Each piece of art, furniture, cutlery, silverware….(okay I’ll stop now)….has a story behind it.  I spoke to the man who knows everything about every single item inside this gallery.  He has an amazing mind.

Check out this interview here.

Cheers,

Greg
