I love award shows. I think they give us a chance to reflect on “the year that was” in the entertainment industry. The hits and misses of music, movies and television. Plus, I love doing those Oscar pools with friends (I usually lose, but this year I won!).

Like many of you, I watched the 82nd Annual Academy Awards last night. I thought they were pretty good. Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin are two of my favourite comedic actors and they did a great job hosting the show together. But I wanted to see more of their act instead of montage after montage.

Avatar was the favourite to come out on top last night. But in the end, The Hurt Locker prevailed.

To this day — I still haven’t seen Avatar. And I still have absolutely no interest in seeing that movie. I’m usually a huge fan of the Science Fiction flicks. But for some reason — this one really isn’t appealing to me. Perhaps because it’s almost THREE HOURS LONG. If there’s one thing I can’t stand, it’s long movies. I have a very low attention span in the theatre. And if the story can’t be told in roughly two hours — I immediately lose interest in going. That’s why I can’t get into any of the Lord of the Rings movies. Way too long. I know I won’t be able to sit through them without going insane.

Despite Avatar’s length — everyone has been telling me to go check it out. Have you seen Avatar? If so — what did you think?
