Wow! We did it! Gold for Canada’s Men’s Hockey Team!
What an INCREDIBLE weekend in Vancouver! I’ve been covering the Olympics for the last 3+ weeks in Whistler and decided to head down to the city for the final weekend of the Games. And I had a blast! The vibe in Vancouver is nothing like it is in Whistler. They’re two very different places. Both with amazing energy. But being in Vancouver this weekend was such a memorable experience.
I watched the game with some friends downtown. And we could hear the energy from the crowds around Vancouver. It was amazing.
With most people heading home and life returning to “normal” — I truly hope Vancouver will keep some of this incredible energy going post-Olympics. It has been SO nice to walk down the street…talk with strangers…high five our fellow Canadians…give directions to tourists…the list goes on and on.
Vancouver is not the friendliest city. But I think the Olympics have given us a chance to reflect upon ourselves — and change our ways. A little kindness goes a very long way.
Up here in Whistler, it’s a ghost town compared to what this community has seen over the last few weeks. Most people are likely sleeping in this morning. The Village is quiet. The restaurants and shops open 24/7 for the Games…are closed this morning. The lineups are gone. Buses are empty and back to their “normal” schedules. And many visitors have gone home. Including me. Once I’ve finished my last cut-in for BT this morning (in about 30 minutes), I’m jumping in my car, cranking my music, and plan to enjoy the drive home.
Thanks, Whistler! It’s been a blast!
