Cancer Sucks-Let’s take it Down!

posted on April 9th, 2010 - Filed in Charity, Fashion, In the News, Local Events - No comments »

I have had a couple of members in my extended family fight the battle. Some who had beaten it, some who continue to fight, and some who fought hard but lost.

On Breakfast Television you will notice that today, we are are wearing pretty yellow flower pins. April is Daffodil Month and  today is Daffodil Day for the Canadian Cancer Society, BC and Yukon and on Breakfast Television, we are showing our support!

Every three minutes, another Canadian is diagnosed with Cancer- perhaps you know someone.

You can help, show your support by wearing a daffodil.

Toque Tuesday!

posted on February 1st, 2010 - Filed in Charity, Fashion, In the News - No comments »

I love coming home after a long day. Who doesn’t?  It’s comfortable, it’s warm, and I am am fortunate enough to have someone who loves me waiting inside.

Not everyone is so fortunate, according to Raising the Roof, approximately 200,000 Canadians are homeless at some point during any given year and 1/3 are youth. In Vancouver, 6000 youth between the ages of 16 and 24 use the shelter system at least one night per year. For every homeless person you see on the street, it is estimated that there are four others you don’t see

Tuesday, February 2 is Toque Tuesday, and it is Raising the Roof’s awareness and fundraising  campaign to help find long term solutions for Homelessness.

Over 150 toque-selling volunteers will be stationed at Burrard Street Station and select New Westminster Skytrain Stations between the hours of 6:30-9:30am, 11:30-1:30pm and 3-6pm.

Dress for Success!

posted on September 24th, 2009 - Filed in Fashion, Local Events - 1 comment »

Earlier this week, Riaz and I had the honour of emceeing the Oakridge Centre Fall Fashion show raising money for “Dress for Success”. I was wearing Jacqueline Connoir from Wear Else and we auctioned off Luisa Cerano Coat with all the proceeds from the live auction going towards the organization.

This is a fantastic organization that I have personally supported for many years.  It gives disadvantaged women the tools and resources to get back into the workforce and supplies them with a suit to wear for their interview so that they can walk in with confidence and know that they are making as good an impression as anyone! Donations are welcome in the form of money, but more importantly, they are always looking for professional women’s attire!

Hey, if it’s only gently used and you don’t need it anymore – it may help a fellow female start off their career! For more information on how you can help, go to the Dress for Success website.

False Advertising?!

A new men’s “wondershirt” has been launched by Equmen and is only available at Holt Renfrew . It has some pretty cool technology that basically sucks it all in (like Spanx for women).

Here’s the BT Chat about the Wondershirt and some vintage Michel and her “Spanx” incident on air…and  see below what it did for Thor!

This is about feeling confident and perhaps a little thinner…but is it a bit of false advertising? What happens when the man or woman of your dreams unveils their “real” self? Maybe we should all be just a little more accepting of each other and more importantly, ourselves.

Nice thought – until then, my Spanx remains on standby,

Hey Peeps,

Not much time to blog today but I wanted to plug a wicked new clothing company for the urban masses, with a Vancouver connection.  Click on the link for Nine O’Clock Gun if you’re looking to spice up your t-shirt collection.  I was sporting one of these bad boys on the show today.  Check them out!

By the way…I know everyone is upset about the snow…yes – yes…I hear ya – but it could be worse…you could be in Winnipeg….and worse yet – it feels like -41 there with the windchill…
Dress warm – maybe build a snowman…and get ready for the melt as we warm up over the next few days and welcome the sunshine on Friday :-)
