Mo Meghji, Mo Meghji, Mo Meghji……

Meghji MovemberIt’s only 3 days in and the baby face is still intact. Soon, the Meghji Magnum P.I. will emerge however, as we raise money for Prostate Cancer Research. Well I’m guessing I’ll look more like Borat instead of Tom Selleck. It’s niiiice!

I’m not a guy that grows facial hair on the regular so you know this is a very special cause. The only other time I sported a beard was during the Canucks’ playoff run in 2009 and everyone thought I was getting married given the age old Indian tradition of sporting the full beard before the big plunge.

So I ask for your support during my next 30 day journey. Anything you can spare would be greatly appreciated because after all, our health is our wealth. Thanks everyone in advance for your support.

Help a Meghji Movember!

The day has almost arrived!  The Canucks kick off their new season at Rogers Arena on Saturday night against Los Angeles.  We got into the hockey spirit this morning on BT.  All of us were decked out in the Canucks 40th Anniversary Vintage Gear — which is now available at the team’s store near Gate Six at Rogers Arena.

You can also check out the Canucks Team Outlet Store at Hastings and Renfrew in East Vancouver (right across from the PNE).

MTV Video Music Awards

I love a good awards show.  And one of my favourites is the MTV Video Music Awards, which were handed out in Los Angeles last night.  You never know what to expect during the program as something controversial usually happens.

I thought Chelsea Handler did an awesome job as host.  She’s hilarious, over the top sarcastic, and loves to make fun of anything and everything related to pop culture.CHELSEA HANDLER

Lady Gaga showed off her usual jaw dropping fashion taste.  What was with the meat dress?

And the cast of Jersey Shore made an appearance (which made me a very happy man!).

The thing I don’t like about award shows like this, is the fact they celebrate the best in music.  Yet, almost every single artist doesn’t sing during their performances.  What’s the point in recognizing talent, when the talent can’t perform properly in front of millions of people?!

Some of my new favourite tunes I heard last night — include gems from 30 Seconds to Mars and Broken Bells

All in all — a great night celebrating music.  But seriously — enough with the lip-synching!

Generation Next

Michel and I had a chance to host the Generation Next Fashion Show last night at Granville Island. Wow! What an awesome event!

It was put on by the Honey Mustard and showcased three local designers — giving them a chance to have their fashions modeled in front of an audience.

There was such an awesome selection of styles. But in the end, Victoria’s Sofia Mendez Scheone came out on top.

Congrats to everyone who took part! We had a blast!

Lookin' good with Canucks Team Store Outlet Manager Derek

Who doesn’t like a good bargain?!  Especially when it comes to our Vancouver Canucks.

On Thursday, I did the weather live from the brand new Canucks Team Store Outlet at the corner of Hastings and Renfrew (right across from the PNE).  This place has AMAZING deals on clothes and used equipment from the Canucks.  I loaded up on a hat, hoodie and t-shirt — for just $60!  A great place on old merchandise.  But really, does any merchandise get old when it comes to our Canucks?  It’s timeless!

Check out my weather hits from Thursday morning.

PS — Pre-season tickets for the Canucks are now on sale (starts September 21st against Calgary).  Go here to get them!

Off to the Races….

I had five dollars on “Restless Lady” to WIN Race Seven and I won big…..$15 dollars big! We hit the Hastings Race Course for the first time on the weekend and it only took minutes before our crew’s competitive juices started flowing as we all tried to master the art of choosing the winning horse.

WIN = Your horse wins, PLACE = your horse finishes either 1st or 2nd and SHOW = your horse places in the top 3. Then came the permutations and combinations behind other payouts of choices you can make.

By far the best part of the entire day on the patio was spending it with a great group of friends that were all dressed up, paying homage to the ‘60s era and really getting into the experience.

If you’re looking for a great way to spend an afternoon, head down to the Race Course and be prepared to get into the action!

When was the last time you received a handwritten letter? There is likely a whole generation who has never received or written one, but one came across my desk the other day. Kinda makes you take notice  – and I am so glad I did!

15 women are part of a group that provides meaningful employment to women in Swaziland, Africa through the making of handbags. The materials are purchased at a local market and the bags are made on hand crank sewing machines.

They are building a new community centre and workshop for a group that currently works in a mud hut. Although they are funded mostly by the Canadian Governement, they need to fundraise the remaining $5000. How can you help? why not purchase one of these fabulous bags that are made by the women themselves?

You can buy the Jabu Bag and other accessories   at EPIC Vancouver on May 28-30 and they are also selling online at Ethical Ocean. A great way to help women sustain themselves through meaningful employment.

Have a great day everyone,

You might wonder why I am wearing a T-Shirt with a big Bulls-eye on my chest! No, it’s not a “look here” kind of thing – but it is meant to draw awareness to Breast Cancer. In fact, I am not alone…Kim Catrall is the ”Face”  this year for the  Fashion Targets Breast Cancer Campaign, raising awareness and funds for breast cancer research.
