Friday Fave – Bootights!

posted on December 16th, 2011 - Filed in Fashion, Uncategorized - 1 comment »

Sorry for my deliquency of Friday Faves…but this one is a good one. In the past, when wearing boots with a skirt, I would wear tights, and then my sport socks on my feet before putting on my boots.

Not anymore – Bootights are my new fave. they are a  tight  (black, patterned and other varieties available) and a sock all in one (sock portion is  in ankle length and shin length). At this point, I know they are available at Jack and Jill Clothing and Spill it Sister in Dunbar. You can also check out their Facebook Page. BTW,Oprah picked it as a Fashion Must Have for 2011 :-)   boot

I have 2 pairs and am hooked! Have a great weekend!

Friday Fave – Malene Grotrian!

posted on November 25th, 2011 - Filed in Fashion, Local Events, Uncategorized - No comments »

I LOVE supporting local talent where I can, and one of my favourite local designers is Malene Grotrian

As I mentioned in a previous post, I recently sang for her Fall Fashion show, but I first met her when I modelled her fashions for Glam Gala Give supporting the fight against Ovarian Cancer. I was also thrilled that Malene offered to dress not only myself, but also the rest of Dal\’s Gals when we performed with the Vancouver Symphony Orchesra last summer.

What a Night! What a Night!

Even the First Lady, Michelle Obama is a fan!

Friday Fave – A Great Umbrella!

posted on November 18th, 2011 - Filed in Fashion, Local Events, Uncategorized - No comments »

I recently had the pleasure of doing the live-eye from The Umbrella Shop - Great quality umbrella for certain, but I really loved that they have been around since 1935 and the family story behind it – check out their story on their website.

can't wait for the rain! can’t wait for the rain!

The brolly’s are beautiful and if you can’t find something you love (I can’t imagine this will be a problem…they can custom design something. They are true artists and the Owner Correy  (3rd Generation Umbrella Maker) is one of the loveliest and most passionate people I have ever met. It’s worth going there just to meet her.

Just one of the things I am loving right now and you’ll need it today!,

Friday Fave – Lash Extensions!

posted on November 11th, 2011 - Filed in Fashion, Makeup, Uncategorized - No comments »

One of the great things about my job on BT, is I have the opportunity to test drive many things – from beauty products to restaurants! So, starting today…I am going to offer my “Friday Fave” – something that I have tried and love enough to tell you about! Not every “thing” is for “everyone” …but I’ll feature something every Friday, just in case you are interested!

I had the opportunity to try them out courtesy of  Noir Lash Lounge as they were working with the models for the  Malene Grotrian Fall Fashion Show and since I would be singing at the show, they thought they’d let me experience them for myself.

I will admit…I NEVER thought I would ever buy into the whole lash extension thing, but after trying them out, I am a huge fan!

They require a bit of care, but it really is just a matter of getting used to it. And now on the weekends, I don’t even wear eye makeup at all and my eyes still pop! They last me about 3-4 weeks before I need a fill (kind of like gel nail maintenance) and you can even nap while it’s being done!

For details, check out Noir Lash Lounge.

Just one of the things I am loving right now,

Dawn

Be A Rainmaker…between November 1 and 14

I recently received this press release about a way you could combine fashion AND philanthropy…

Obakki Foundation presents The Rainmaker Auction November 1-14
Fashionable charity raises money to provide clean water in Sudan

October 3, 2011 – (Vancouver, BC) The Obakki Foundation is proud to announce the launch of their fundraiser The Rainmaker Auction – an online eBay auction to raise $200,000 to help fund the drilling of 200 water wells in South Sudan this December.
The auction, which runs from November 1st – 14th, will feature one-of-a-kind experiences as well as hundreds of signed auction items from well known musicians, athletes, celebrities and artists. New auctions items will be released daily on the Obakki Foundation eBay account over the duration of the two weeks.
Signed celebrity items from:
Taylor Swift, Coldplay, Beyonce, Garth Brooks, Tiger Woods, Nickelback, Carrie Underwood, Ozzy Osbourne, Katy Perry and more!
Treana Peake, Creative Director of luxury womenswear clothing brand Obakki, founded the Obakki Foundation in 2009 to help provide clean water projects and educational development in Africa.

“We recently traveled to South Sudan to see a country and people destroyed after 40 years of civil war. Over 2 million people have been killed with another 4 million displaced, leaving behind a country of women and young men with fractured hope for their futures.” says Peake. “After only 7 days on the ground, we became committed to these people for life. Within 3 months of our return to Canada, we drilled over 100 wells, bringing clean water to over 100,000 people. This upcoming dry season we have committed to drill 200 more.”

As with all of the Obakki Foundation’s fundraising projects, 100% of money raised will go towards drilling the much needed water wells in Sudan. Projects start immediately and auction winners will quickly be able to see the impact their donations have created.

Makes you want to be a Rainmaker, doesn’t it?

Vancouver’s Gay Top Model

posted on April 25th, 2011 - Filed in Charity, CitySpotlight, Entertainment, Fashion, Local Events - 2 comments »

Over the long weekend, Michel and I got the chance to host the finale show of Vancouver’s Gay Top Model. It was an awesome night featuring performances, music and fashion! Nine young men strut their stuff down the catwalk at River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond. But in the end, only one would emerge the winner.

Congrats to Todd Johnston who was given the title “Vancouver’s Gay Top Model 2011″ and all the other models who took part. This was an awesome fundraiser for an amazing charity called “Friends for Life” — which does some very important work in our community. The organization is always looking for volunteers, and you can find out more information through the website.

Here’s a link to Vancouver’s Gay Top Model. And thanks to everyone who joined us for a very fun event! We’re already looking forward to next year’s competition!
