Generation Next

Michel and I had a chance to host the Generation Next Fashion Show last night at Granville Island. Wow! What an awesome event!

It was put on by the Honey Mustard and showcased three local designers — giving them a chance to have their fashions modeled in front of an audience.

There was such an awesome selection of styles. But in the end, Victoria’s Sofia Mendez Scheone came out on top.

Congrats to everyone who took part! We had a blast!

Lookin' good with Canucks Team Store Outlet Manager Derek

Who doesn’t like a good bargain?!  Especially when it comes to our Vancouver Canucks.

On Thursday, I did the weather live from the brand new Canucks Team Store Outlet at the corner of Hastings and Renfrew (right across from the PNE).  This place has AMAZING deals on clothes and used equipment from the Canucks.  I loaded up on a hat, hoodie and t-shirt — for just $60!  A great place on old merchandise.  But really, does any merchandise get old when it comes to our Canucks?  It’s timeless!

Check out my weather hits from Thursday morning.

PS — Pre-season tickets for the Canucks are now on sale (starts September 21st against Calgary).  Go here to get them!

Off to the Races….

I had five dollars on “Restless Lady” to WIN Race Seven and I won big…..$15 dollars big! We hit the Hastings Race Course for the first time on the weekend and it only took minutes before our crew’s competitive juices started flowing as we all tried to master the art of choosing the winning horse.

WIN = Your horse wins, PLACE = your horse finishes either 1st or 2nd and SHOW = your horse places in the top 3. Then came the permutations and combinations behind other payouts of choices you can make.

By far the best part of the entire day on the patio was spending it with a great group of friends that were all dressed up, paying homage to the ‘60s era and really getting into the experience.

If you’re looking for a great way to spend an afternoon, head down to the Race Course and be prepared to get into the action!

When was the last time you received a handwritten letter? There is likely a whole generation who has never received or written one, but one came across my desk the other day. Kinda makes you take notice  – and I am so glad I did!

15 women are part of a group that provides meaningful employment to women in Swaziland, Africa through the making of handbags. The materials are purchased at a local market and the bags are made on hand crank sewing machines.

They are building a new community centre and workshop for a group that currently works in a mud hut. Although they are funded mostly by the Canadian Governement, they need to fundraise the remaining $5000. How can you help? why not purchase one of these fabulous bags that are made by the women themselves?

Buy a Bag, help women in Africa

You can buy the Jabu Bag and other accessories   at EPIC Vancouver on May 28-30 and they are also selling online at Ethical Ocean. A great way to help women sustain themselves through meaningful employment.

Have a great day everyone,

You might wonder why I am wearing a T-Shirt with a big Bulls-eye on my chest! No, it’s not a “look here” kind of thing – but it is meant to draw awareness to Breast Cancer. In fact, I am not alone…Kim Catrall is the ”Face”  this year for the  Fashion Targets Breast Cancer Campaign, raising awareness and funds for breast cancer research.

I have had a couple of members in my extended family fight the battle. Some who had beaten it, some who continue to fight, and some who fought hard but lost.

On Breakfast Television you will notice that today, we are are wearing pretty yellow flower pins. April is Daffodil Month and  today is Daffodil Day for the Canadian Cancer Society, BC and Yukon and on Breakfast Television, we are showing our support!

Every three minutes, another Canadian is diagnosed with Cancer- perhaps you know someone.

You can help, show your support by wearing a daffodil.

Toque Tuesday!

posted on February 1st, 2010 - Filed in Charity, Fashion, In the News - No comments »

I love coming home after a long day. Who doesn’t?  It’s comfortable, it’s warm, and I am am fortunate enough to have someone who loves me waiting inside.

Not everyone is so fortunate, according to Raising the Roof, approximately 200,000 Canadians are homeless at some point during any given year and 1/3 are youth. In Vancouver, 6000 youth between the ages of 16 and 24 use the shelter system at least one night per year. For every homeless person you see on the street, it is estimated that there are four others you don’t see

Tuesday, February 2 is Toque Tuesday, and it is Raising the Roof’s awareness and fundraising  campaign to help find long term solutions for Homelessness.

Over 150 toque-selling volunteers will be stationed at Burrard Street Station and select New Westminster Skytrain Stations between the hours of 6:30-9:30am, 11:30-1:30pm and 3-6pm.
