Pattullo Bridge Comes in Third….

posted on June 2nd, 2011 - Filed in Uncategorized - No comments »

The Pattullo Bridge has been voted the worst section of road in Metro Vancouver according to a survey conducted by the B.C. Automobile Association.

And it’s just one of four busy Metro bridges and tunnels that made BCAA’s list of the Top 20 worst stretches of road in B.C. The others are the George Massey Tunnel, the Iron Workers Memorial Bridge and the Oak Street Bridge.

BCAA compiled its list based on nearly 4,000 responses to a survey that asked which B.C. road, bridge or tunnel is most in need of attention.

Interestingly, while Metro Vancouver has roughly half of the province’s population, and by far its most congested and accident-prone streets, it took only five of the Top 20 spots on BCAA’s list.

Upcoming work on SkyTrain you should know about…

posted on May 11th, 2011 - Filed in Uncategorized - 1 comment »

Here’ s the very latest from Translink Spokesperson Drew Snider.

Work underway on SkyTrain facilities will result in some service adjustments for customers over the next few weeks.

Scott Road Station    in order to improve service to our customers in Surrey, particularly those with disabilities, work will begin Friday May 13 on upgrades to Scott Road Station. This includes a new elevator on the west side and a re-designed bus loop.

This work will continue through July 2012.

During the construction/installation period, the parking lot used by SkyTrain employees will be closed, and about a dozen spaces in the general parking area (Lot B) will be marked “reserved.” Customers should watch for the signs marking the newly reserved spaces.

Woodlands Tunnel    on Sunday May 15, maintenance work, which had begun in April, will continue in the tunnel between Columbia and Sapperton Stations. Along with general track maintenance, upgraded lighting will be installed.

This means trains will run on a single track in alternating directions from the start of service until approximately 2 p.m. Customers will notice the gap between trains on the Expo and Millennium Lines will be slightly longer than normal. This work will wrap up before service is due to ramp up for the hockey game.

Here’s the latest from Translink Spokesperson Drew Snider….

Track maintenance work is continuing on the Canada Line through the month of March, so late-night service adjustments will still be in effect.

The adjustments will be in effect from 11pm until the close of service on each of the following evenings:

Sunday, March 27, 30 and April 3

Monday, March 21, 28, April 4 and April 11

Tuesday, March 22, 29, April 5 and April 12

and Wednesday, March 23, 30, April 6 and April 13

During those times, Canada Line will run trains every 15 minutes out of Waterfront Station. Trains running all the way through to Richmond-Brighouse and YVR-Airport will depart every half-hour, and shuttles between Waterfront and Olympic Village Stations will run in-between.

From Richmond-Brighouse and YVR-Airport, trains will also run every 15 minutes, with a train every half hour going to downtown Vancouver, and shuttles in-between going as far as Marine Drive Station and back.

In addition, the #15 Cambie/Downtown bus will run every 15 minutes, complementing service to those going to points along the Cambie Corridor.

Single platforms will be in use at Broadway/City Hall and King Edward Stations: signs will be posted and Canada Line Attendants (CLAs) will be at the stations to assist customers.

FINAL PREPARATIONS UNDERWAY FOR WHITECAPS MLS DEBUT
AT EMPIRE FIELD

Excitement is building for the March 19th Vancouver Whitecaps MLS season opener at Empire Field in Vancouver, the venue’s first regular season soccer game in 28 years.

The PNE event based parking rates – $14.75 plus tax ($20.00 total price) for event site parking – includes the mandated collection of 33% compounded tax including a 21% Translink parking tax plus the 12% HST.

On game days, TransLink will be boosting service linking to Empire Field.  Service on Hastings Street and links from the North Shore and from the Millennium SkyTrain Line will give fans great connections to the games, and TransLink will offer ’special events’ boosts in service for
game days.

Those taking SkyTrain can get off at either 29th Avenue Station or Renfrew Station and catch a “Whitecaps Special” shuttle bus that will begin service to Empire Field about three hours before kickoff. The shuttles will also run from the stadium to those same stations after the game. Canada Line passengers can transfer to a SkyTrain line at Waterfront station or catch a No. 135 SFU bus at Hastings and Granville — a limited-stop service that lets riders off near Empire Field at Hastings and Windermere.

Transit Re-routes Due to Fire…

posted on March 15th, 2011 - Filed in Uncategorized - No comments »

Good morning!

Due to a working fire at Victoria & 33rd Avenue, service on the #20 Victoria/downtown is a bit messy this morning, to say the least.

Trolleys on the southbound run are only going as far as Commercial/Broadway Station and turning around to head back downtown.

Diesel shuttles are operating between Commercial/Broadway and Harrison Loop.

There are also delays in getting the trolleys into service (at this time) because they have to take a longer route around the fire scene to get to their starting points.

Thanks to our customers in advance for their patience.

Cold weather to come, slippery Driving conditions!

Hi All!

Have you had a look at the forecast?  Tonight we may see some snow at higher elevations, and with the temps staying low through the week we really have to watch for “black ice”.

The “high” on Thursday during the day is expected to reach only one degree. Especially if you are commuting in the early morning hours or late at night. Bridges, overpasses, on and off ramps and secondary routes tend to get quite slick. Bring your speed down, and use extra caution when starting and stopping.

If you are using transit, please dress warmly. Of course before you leave the house, get the “low down” on your traffic and weather from Breakfast Television so you know what to expect!

Updates to come! Enjoy the week, at least there’s a lot of sun to go with that chilly weather!

What are you doing February 10th??

Come join Kyle Donaldson and I for the 2nd annual “Spay-ghetti and No Balls…and intimate affair!” at the Vancouver Rowing Club! This event is SO much fun, by far one of the best events of the year, and all for a GREAT cause.

The night includes a beautiful Vegetarian Italian dinner, burlesque show, and performance by BC’s very own Frank Sinatra tribute artist Rick Valiant. That’s not all; there are very cool items to be bid on by silent and live auction. Let me tell you, it got pretty crazy last year, you just never know what’s going to happen. Especially with Kyle and I as your hosts. You are also invited to stay after the performances to dance the rest of the night away! It’s actually a GREAT Valentines night out!

Come support the BCSPCA and our furry friends around the province, and have a GREAT time doing it! For tickets go to spca.bc.ca/spayghetti.

We’ll see you there!!
