The May long weekend is on the horizon! And it’s seen as the “unofficial” start to summer vacation for many families. I’m taking this opportunity for a friendly reminder — PLAN AHEAD if you’re taking BC Ferries between the island and the mainland. DON’T spend your coveted long weekend, sitting in a ferry lineup.
BC Ferries has released the busiest times of day to travel over the next few days. Check it out here. And enjoy your long weekend!

Vancouver’s Gay Top Model

posted on April 25th, 2011 - Filed in Charity, CitySpotlight, Entertainment, Fashion, Local Events - 2 comments »

Over the long weekend, Michel and I got the chance to host the finale show of Vancouver’s Gay Top Model. It was an awesome night featuring performances, music and fashion! Nine young men strut their stuff down the catwalk at River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond. But in the end, only one would emerge the winner.

Congrats to Todd Johnston who was given the title “Vancouver’s Gay Top Model 2011″ and all the other models who took part. This was an awesome fundraiser for an amazing charity called “Friends for Life” — which does some very important work in our community. The organization is always looking for volunteers, and you can find out more information through the website.

Here’s a link to Vancouver’s Gay Top Model. And thanks to everyone who joined us for a very fun event! We’re already looking forward to next year’s competition!

First, a school did it in Montreal. Followed by the U of Vic in Spain. Then, the students at UVIC decided to give it a try. And now, UBC is making its mark on the world wide web with the creation of a lipdub!

It was shot over a weekend in late March and it was finally posted on Youtube just a few days ago. And it’s already turning into a viral hit!

Check out their fabulous work here.

When you fly, do you pay attention to the opening safety announcements from the flight crew? Not a lot of people do. So, Air New Zealand has come up with another clever way of getting passengers to pay attention to the important information.
Check out their safety video here. It stars the one and only Richard Simmons.
What do you think? Is it an effective way of getting people to pay attention? Or is it an annoying waste of time?

The New York Times has created a great before/after interactive demonstration to demonstrate just how powerful the earthquake and tsunami have been on a number of communities in Japan.

Find it here.
