The Full Monty….

posted on March 18th, 2009 - Filed in Uncategorized - No comments »

We sang, we laughed and I danced around with nothing much on but my coat, socks and dress shoes.  You just never know what assignment is around the corner.  A memorable day for sure.

I’m telling ya, there is a lot of talent right here in BC.  What I morning I had with the actors and director of The Full Monty.  This musical is just starting up at the Norman Rothstein Theatre in Vancouver.  The last preview is today with the show opening tomorrow and running through to April 5th.  You should check it out!

Time to put my pants back on.

“I always feel like somebody’s watching me…..”

and I have no privacy.” -Rockwell, 1984.  Oh yes, I can still hear the song in my ears now.  I thought of it this morning when I got to see all the latest ’spy’ gadgets at the Spyzone store in Vancouver.  Cameras nowadays come in all shapes and sizes.  Who knew a button on your shirt could be a camera?  How about a stick of gum watching someone’s every move?  I saw it all this morning.

Tomorrow should be a lucky day.  Hey, I’ve got some Irish in me.  Because it is St. Patrick’s Day on Tuesday, I figured we should head down to W & A Farms to help out with the shipping of seeding potatoes.  Some of these seeding potatoes you will be buying.  I’ll do my best not to strain my back.  I hear the work being done there at the farm is quite physical.

What a workout….

I have to say a big thank you to the Vancouver Giants organization.  Giants strength and conditioning coach, Ian Gallagher put winger Lance Bouma and myself through the paces and I needed that.  Bouma and I pedaled on the bike, work our abs and lifted some weights.  I’m ready to crack the Giants line up now.  (Not quite.)  Let me tell ya, those junior hockey players are in shape.  Lance is still recovering from a hand injury but hopes to be back on the ice in time for the playoffs next week.  Good luck G-Men!

Ever feel like you are being watched?  Hey, you never know with all the little cameras out there.  The very latest in ’spy’ gadgets is what we will be covering on Monday.  Should be ’secretly’ good.

video games &…..

posted on March 12th, 2009 - Filed in Uncategorized - 1 comment »

How come kids are so much better at video games than most adults?  It doesn’t matter if our youth have never played or seen the game before either.  The kids are just better right away.  At least that is what I have found.  I’m trying to figure it out.

Anyways.  I should be catching up with the Vancouver Giants tomorrow and also learning just what a junior hockey league player goes through on game day.

CG Animation….

These CG animated movies are so popular right now.  I think you’d agree with me, the quality of work being down nowadays is absolutely outstanding.

Do you ever wonder how these talented animators put it all together?  I’m going to Rainmaker Entertainment in Vancouver on Wednesday to find out how they do it.

Rainmaker is internationally recognized for its work on Spiderman and Popeye.  The company is behind the yet to be released ‘The Nutty Professor’ which was voiced by Jerry Lewis.

We will check out a scene from the movie and then learn just how these talented people create the magic they do.

Until tomorrow everyone….

Walking the aisles….

When you are out shopping at the grocery store, do you ever think about how all the products you see arrived on the store shelves?

Tomorrow, we will get a first hand look at what people in the grocery industry will or won’t be buying.  We will see the products before they make it to the store.  I’m sure we’ll have a pretty good idea which products will make the cut.  Should be fun!

A tip….

If you happen to catch the stomach flu, (at least that is what I think it was) make sure to constantly hydrate yourself.  I’m still battling to rebound after falling ill on Monday evening.  I’m almost there!  Almost there.

Next week I need to be healthy because it’s a big one.  Hopefully, I’ll be starting off the week on a farm learning all that goes into working on another ‘very early’ job.  We will learn about some of the very latest grocery items that stores will be buying before you do.  Last, but very certainly not least, we will check in with the Vancouver Giants of the WHL with the playoffs right around the corner.

Okay.  Time to rest up and continually replenish myself.

No bullies this morning…

What a great group of youth that were hanging out with me at the Hyde Away Youth Centre in Port Coquitlam this morning.  I played some ping pong, pool and some air hockey with them.

Some creative students were there creating bully boxes too!  The plan is to implement these boxes in places like schools and youth centres in the community.  The idea behind them is to encourage those who may be victims of bullying to insert an anonymous note inside the box which can inform the right people on ways to help deal with the issue.  It’s a great idea I think.

Judging by the large group of kids in the youth centre today, the future looks bright!

Remember those robot wars you could see on T.V.?  Tune in Thursday morning when we check in with some students at Gladstone High School and their award winning robots.  Should be fun.

See you then!

Space…the final frontier

A very interesting morning I had at the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre.  It was pretty amazing to see a satellite image showing all the debris flying around in space.  Did you know that some people have the job of constantly tracking all the garbage in space and figuring out if there is a risk of a collision.  We are talking about some fragments that are just under 10 centimetres in length and width.  Can you say number crunching!

I am going to be in Port Coquitlam Wednesday morning for Anti-Bullying Day.  Do you know what a bully box is?  I’m going to find this out.  We are also going to meet an improv group who are raising awareness of bullying through performance.

See you tomorrow.

All the things you can do on the ice….

posted on February 23rd, 2009 - Filed in Uncategorized - No comments »

I’ve just been thinking about this lately since I have been on several ice surfaces recently finding different ways of getting around.

Let’s see.  In the last little while I have skated, run, walked, wheeled, slid, sledged across ice.  What’s left?  I guess I could take a run on a bobsleigh, luge, skeleton or maybe take a ride on a snowmobile.

Anyone have any other methods?

More random thoughts to come.
