Olympic Streetcar Launch

posted on January 20th, 2010 - Filed in Uncategorized - No comments »

Before the first ride on the Olympic streetcar begins, we are checking out the vehicles designed by Bombardier Transportation in its entirety.

These two streetcars have been brought in from Brussels, Belgium and will be free to ride on in time for the Olympics.  Vancouver city officials are treating this as an experiment and it could lead to streetcars becoming another form of transporation in the city long after the Games are over.

I will be talking to some people from Bombardier Transportation and some City of Vancouver officials on what you can expect during the 2010 Games.

Take a ride with us Thursday morning!

See you then,

Greg

Bad to the Bone

Well, not quite but that George Thorogood song is appropriate for what I am doing on Tuesday.

With the Vancouver Motorcycle Show just around the corner, I’m going to try and figure out how they build these custom bikes out at the Trick Factory in New Westminster.

See ya Tuesday morning!

A Tofu Christmas

Very interesting to see how they make tofu out at Sunrise Soya Foods in Vancouver. Thanks to the plant manager, Ken Lee and to Martina Iring who put together quite the spread of food.

Here are the links to the recipes she talked about.

‘It’s hard to hold a microphone, in the cold November rain…’

Yes Axl Rose was right on the money.  It is hard to hold anything in this weather, especially in the wee hours of the morning.

Glad I braved the dampness this moring to check out Bright Nights at Stanley Park though.  If you are looking for something to do over the holiday season go check out the train and light display inside the Crown Jewel.  This 12th annual event is for a great cause too.  Proceeds from it go to the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund.  It opens this Friday (November 27) to the public.

From Bright Nights to….the human brain.  I know it’s quite a switch in subject matter but it is what we are all about in Tuesday’s live eye.  We are going to learn all about the brain out at the UBC Brain Research Centre.  Don’t worry, I’ll have my thinking cap on.  :)   I couldn’t resist that.

See ya in the morning.

It’s hockey time in Abby!

posted on September 24th, 2009 - Filed in Uncategorized - 1 comment »

Hey Everyone,

Yes, pro hockey has arrived in Abbotsford.  The Abbotsford Heat will be taking on the Manitoba Moose in a preseason game Friday night.  If this AHL affair is anything like some of the NHL battles we’ve seen between the Calgary Flames and the Vancouver Canucks….lookout!

Are they ready for pro hockey in Abby?  Friday morning we will be checking out how the game preparation is going at the new Abbotsford Entertainment & Sports Centre.  First we will take a look at the ice work and scoreclock at the new venue.  We will then move to the broadcast booth with Heat play by play man, Dave Sheldon.  I’ll lace up my skates as Heat head coach, Jim Playfair talks about what his expectations are going into the teams’ inaugural season.  To finish off this ice hockey adventure, I’ll end up on the ice with a couple of Heat players doing some drills.   ‘Tweeeeeet’  There’s the whistle.  I’m done.

See ya Friday morning.

***Oh yeah!  I almost forgot.  If you’d like to go to the game between the Heat and Moose on Friday night, you’ll need to listen up.  I’ll be giving away some tickets to the game and let you know how you can maybe get your hands on some of them.

See ya in the morning.

A good way to start the morning…

Hey everybody,

Every once in awhile on BT we like to visit a place where the workers have to get up earlier than we do.  Some of the bakers at Swiss Bakery in Vancouver start at 1am.  Ouch!

From the fresh bread to the tasty pastries, we’ll help them out learn how they make some of their most popular treats.  Included in this is their pretzels which have been deemed to be one of the ‘101 things to taste before you die’, in October’s edition of Vancouver Magazine.

I’ll try not to eat too much.

Some lucky ladies……

So what will you be doing Wednesday morning?  For five women, the day is going to start off quite nicely.

I’ll be with the winner of our “Moms Back to School Break” contest on BT.  Yes the winner of this grand prize was allowed to invite four of her friends for one relaxing time at the Spa Utopia in North Vancouver.

I’ll be checking in with these women as they receive a massage, facial and a pedicure.  I wonder how I can get a treatment out of this?  I’ll figure something out.

See ya Wednesday morning.

You Learn Something New Everyday….

Do you like to go camping?  I myself do and I learned something new today.  According to Jordan Struthers from the BC Forest Service, you should use your hand to make sure your campfire is completely out.  I’ve never done that before but will start to this year.  Hey, it makes sense.  There would be no forest fires caused by unattended campfires if everyone put their hand over a doused fire.  How many of these wildfires start because someone ‘thought’ their fire was out?  Have a fun and safe season on the campgrounds!

Ever been to Bard on the Beach?  We’re checking it out tomorrow.  Fighting with swords and finding out what goes on in all those tents is just some of what we will be doing.

See you on Friday morning!

Keeping up with Thor…

posted on May 15th, 2009 - Filed in Uncategorized - 2 comments »

Thor Diakow is a blogging machine.  He types faster than I can talk.  His mind works faster than a computer.  It’s unbelievable.  I think I’m going to try and keep up with him for a bit.  We’ll see how it goes.

Speaking of Thor, he recently saw Angels & Demons with Tom Hanks and has given me a preview of the film.  I’m seeing it over the weekend you see because I’m talking with the crew at CIS on Tuesday morning.  At CIS, they recreate images for the big screen.  The actors in the movie never set foot in a church.  It’s computer effects–and beleive me, it’s amazing to see how they did it.

Have a great long weekend and we’ll see you on Tuesday!

Ride ‘em cowboy

posted on May 14th, 2009 - Filed in Uncategorized - No comments »

I’m still a little uneasy around horses and I don’t think I’ll ever be comfortable around a bull.  This aside, look out Cloverdale, we’re heading down to the Stetson Bowl Friday morning to check out the Cloverdale Rodeo & Exhibition.

We have a rope master and his trained horse lined up.  I’ll be talking to a professional cowboy about how he gets ready for competition.  And because this is also a country fair, oh yes, we’ll be talking to the manager of West Coast Amusements and learn about what it is like to travel the continent setting up and taking down rides all year.

Yeeaaaah!
