funny or die

WOW!  The people at FunnyOrDie.com have done it again with this hilarious “reimagining” of Bobby Brown’s 1989 classic “Every Little Step”.  This new version features comedian Wayne Brady lip-syncing to the tune with Mike Tyson as a backup dancer!

P.S. Watch for the cameo from the real Bobby Brown.

Half Naked Firefighters, Boxer Briefs, and Charity OH MY!

Have you picked up you 2011 Hall of Flame Firefighters Calendar yet? It’s definitely worth a look (or 12) not only because it has everything you want in a calendar (you know, 12 months and the days of the week all laid out) but because it raises money for a cause near and dear to all Firefighters, the Burn Fund . Oh yeah…and hot men!

Great tie in at the Launch party of  Naked Boxer Briefs at Boysco the other night…as Joel Primus President and CEO donated $1000 to the Burn Fund and offered up 500 shares of Naked Boxer Brief  to Boysco as a thank-you for supporting their company. The party was great…and visual – enjoy!

I’m off to get my calendar!

Eat Your Heart Out Denzel

denzelMan Up! I once heard that Denzel Washington still takes acting class. The fact the man, who’s one of the best in the business, is still open to improving and learning is admirable. Good thing he’s taking class though, as the competition just got a little stiffer.

This past weekend I signed up for an acting class for the first time in years. Acting was always a hobby of mine back in my high school days and I even took a couple of courses during my time at SFU.

A twelve person acting fundamentals course over at the Actor’s Foundry is the challenge at hand. Last night, we were broken into pairs and given specific scenes to work on throughout the month. For some reason, the instructor thought Ricky Roma would be a good character for me to chew on and he assigned yours truly a scene from the classic David Mamet piece Glengarry Glen Ross. Hopefully, Mama Meghji will forgive my use of Mamet’s favorite four letter word!

We will study the art for four weeks and deliver a final performance to “close the deal”. After only a few hours, I already have a new appreciation for the challenges actors face and how they turn words on paper into emotion on screen.

PS. One of my favorite movies of all time is Training Day featuring Denzel himself. One of the rare glimpes of seeing the perennial good guy, gone bad.

It’s Pre-Season…relax!

I had the chance to watch the Oilers take down the Canucks 3-2 this past week. It didn’t mean much because it was pre-season but Luongo, the Sedins, Kesler and Samuelsson were all on the ice.  The fans were ruthless!

Sure the tickets are expensive and we all want the Canucks to win all the time but these games mean little to nothing and we get the chance to see some young up and comers playing their hearts out to earn a shot at the big leagues. Hold off on the boo birds for now and let’s let the boys get settled.

At least it wasn’t as bad as what goaltender Carey Price had to face in Montreal. Ouch!

Have a great weekend, see ya Monday!

First Weekend of the Tighter Laws…

posted on September 24th, 2010 - Filed in Uncategorized - 1 comment »

Happy Friday All!

Well, here we go into our first weekend with the new tougher laws on Drinking and Driving, and of course speeding.

Just to reiterate, if you are now caught drinking and driving and you blow over 0.08, your car will be immediately impounded for 30 days, and your license will be revoked for 90 days. You could also face criminal charges and fines of up to $4,060. If you blow a “warning” which falls between 0.05 to 0.079, immediately means a 30 day driving ban a $250 fine, a $200 fee to get a license back and a possible three-day vehicle impoundment — all for a first offence.

Obviously this is going to have a HUGE impact on your decision making when planning your night out. It is no longer okay to just have ONE drink at dinner and then drive home. This will mean an increased demand on cabs, and public transit, and no doubt will have a HUGE impact on the restaurant industry.

Drinking and driving was NEVER a smart idea, and the laws should adjust to make sure that people no longer do it.  But there should also be more done about informing people about their alternatives. Have SkyTrain run longer, more busses and cabs…Don’t forget about companies like “The Driving Alternative” program it into your phones people….604-581-0558. This is great for one of those nights where you have your car, and weren’t planning on drinking…then decide to have a couple. Someone else will come and drive you and your car home safely. If you are in an area where you don’t know which cab to call, dial #TAXI. Plan your ride home before you even get started.

Bottom line, keep everyone safe stay off the roads if you’ve had drinks…its cheaper to call a cab, or leave your car behind and pay for the towing charge or parking fee than call a lawyer. When you consider the lives that could be ruined by one mis-judgment call, its a “no brainer”.

Along with the new drinking and driving laws, come tougher speeding laws too. If you are caught going 40km an hour or more over the speed limit your car will immediately be impounded for 7days on top of stiffer fines.

Drive safely and smart,

Men, listen up!

“I hear you…I see you” is the go to phrase given to Craig T Nelson’s character Zeek Braverman by a marriage therapist in Parenthood as a way to save his marriage with with wife  Camille (played by Bonnie Bedelia).

Not to stereotype, but this is a common concern that many women have regarding the men in their lives. Dr. John Gray would say it’s because we are wired differently – and according to his new book that we just need to leave them alone for a bit each day so that they can eventually focus on us. In other words – don’t bug them and in return they will listen more..huh?

Riaz and I had a little “communication” this morning…Riaz, do you hear me? do you see me?

All good Riaz- just bugging ya – key to a great relationship (in marriage and in TV) is a sense of humour!

American Idol Judges – It’s Official!

Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Stephen Tyler

Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Stephen Tyler

It’s official!  Fox has announced Jennifer Lopez and Stephen Tyler are the new judges for the upcoming season American Idol.  This wasn’t a surprise as the speculation has been out for months.

I think the show is doomed without Simon Cowell and won’t last another season.  And I think both Lopez and Tyler are a little random to throw beside Randy Jackson at the judge’s table.

What do you think?  Will you watch?
