Gotta Love Live TV!

Anything can happen when it comes to live television. And this morning was a shining example on Breakfast Television. We did our usual spot with the Vancouver SPCA. And showcased two dogs in need of a loving home. But, there was plenty of lovin’ going on — at the exact moment we decided to go on the air.

Have a look for yourself.

Pride Parade 2010!

posted on July 26th, 2010 - Filed in Uncategorized - 1 comment »

Hello All!

How are you getting down to Pride this year? Probably best to take public transit…just leave the car at home, and relax and enjoy!

Here are some details I figured you might need if you are planning on taking in the festivities on the long weekend.

The party starts in Davie Village! Road closures go up at 3pm on Friday July 30th, for the Street Dance Party! Davie will be closed between Burrard and Jervis. The party starts at 7pm and goes until midnight! Bring your dancin’ shoes!

PARADE TIME!!! Sunday August 1st you can’t miss this! Vancouver comes alive with the Pride Parade every year, and this year will be no exception! Road closures going up at 8am…Parade starts at noon at Robson and Bute…goes west along Robson to then south on Denman and loops onto Beach and wraps up at Pacific and Jervis round 3pm.

Don’t end your plans there…the party continues at the Sunset Beach Festival from 11am -6pm…so much to do and see,  and open to EVERYONE!

The weather forecast is looking GREAT for the long weekend, so come on down to the largest Pride Parade in western Canada!

Enjoy!

Red or White Mr.Cow?

posted on July 25th, 2010 - Filed in In the News - 1 comment »

Who doesn’t likea a nice glass of wine with their steak? Well how about your “Steak” having a glass or 2?

Sounds like a pretty good way to ease into the afterlife – get the cow drunk before it ”meats” its inevitable demise. Apparently there is an added benefit of improving the heart health in cattle – I won’t say anything about how this doesn’t necessarily seem like a benefit to the cow given the ultimate outcome.

The idea behind this is to give the meat better texture, aroma and flavour – but will it be worth it at a 15% higher price?

I think the consumer is prepared to pay for good food and quality and while some budgets will only allow for one of you to imbibe (you or your dinner) – I think there will be a market for this and I look forward to trying it for myself sometime next year when  Kelowna’s Janice Ravndahk of Sezmu Meats hopes to bring her product to select butchers in Vancouver.

Annoyed Much?

posted on July 23rd, 2010 - Filed in Uncategorized - 1 comment »

What drives you nuts at work? Is it that girl that always spills the beans on her not so successful first dates while you work?  Or what about that person that always waits until you leave, then leaves five minutes later to make it look like they do more than you do?

Everyone has got something that gets to them. After eight years in television I have never had the privilege of working in my own office. The open cubicle system seen in TV land would be my weakest link as silence is a rare commodity in this setting and I’m the type that works best when you can hear a pin drop.  Add that to the pollution of  Debbie Downer’s pot sticker down the hall and one thing comes to mind…..Houston, we have a problem. Lucky for me, this crew keeps me laughing the entire time.

If you think you’re alone on your everday annoyances, think again. Check your sanity by checking out this link of  the most common things to put you over the top in the workplace.

What Yoga did for Me

posted on July 22nd, 2010 - Filed in Charity, Local Events, Uncategorized - 1 comment »

As many of you know, I embarked on a month of wellness with a challenge to do 30 classes of Yoga and Pilates in 35 Days.  Exhale Studio in Yaletown  decided to add a little extra motivation by adding a donation component that would help the BC Cancer Foundation.

I finished my 30th class on Saturday, July 24. My experience was better than I could have hoped for – I thought I would share a few thoughts about the instructors and how they brought out the best in me.

Rachel (owner) – Without this challenge and the charity tie in, I wouldn’t have done it, and I do believe a part of my life has been improved because of the opportunity.

rachel

Rick - He helped me do the best I could do (being about as flexible as a piece of wood) and honour what my body was capable of (OK, what this means is he didn’t laugh at me).  He also is a musician and the other day he played guitar what we were in Savasana (corpse pose). Check him out at his website

rick

Kate – did a class that focused on shoulders that makes me feel really strong lowering down from plank pose (Chaturanga Dandasana). Her attention to form with her Smart Yoga has changed the way I walk. I have never had good posture but her classes make me conscious of it and I am trying.

kate

Alex- Best of both Pilates and Yoga with her fusion class. She just has this energy about her. She does know how to kick it in to high gear and my abs are thankful.

alex

Jolene- LOVE her. She has an air of acceptance of all that surrounds her and it is contageous. My favourite poses that she has taught me are “waterfall” and “tree” and my favourite phrase from her is ” close your eyes- there’s nothing to see”

jolene

What did I learn? Being more flexible doesn’t make you a better person, but committing time to yourself and honouring and being grateful for all that you CAN do, does.

Namaste,

Dawn

Confused Much?

vanilla sky

So ‘Vanilla Sky’ has topped a poll asking people what the most confusing movie of all time is.  I don’t recall all the details about this movie but I don’t remember being confused, just bored.

If you want a confusing movie, check out Philip Seymour Hoffman in ‘Synecdoche, New York‘.  I guess it’s some kind of art house film but I found it puzzling to the point of extreme tedium.

What’s the most confusing movie you’ve ever seen?

How cool is this!?

A group of students from UBC is up for an Emmy Award for a great documentary they helped put together which looks at problems with E-Waste.

Check out my interview with Jodie from this morning. And you can find the documentary “Ghana: Digital Dumping Ground”

seinfeld

Attention Seinfeld Fans…

I’ve seen some great mashups on the internet in my day but none come close to this fake trailer for “Serenity Now“.  Basically, picture the hit show Seinfeld as a dramatic, action-packed movie.

Enjoy!

Hogan v. Meghji

Talk about a trip down memory lane. The one thing that bonded my dad, big bro Zain and myself back in the day was some good ol’ wrestling! The likes of the Ultimate Warrior, Andre the Giant and the immortal Hulk Hogan were the icons that had us screaming at the TV during Saturday Night’s Main Event, all in an effort to help dictate the already orchestrated outcome.

This past Sunday, Team Hogan came to the Red Robinson Theatre and we managed to squeeze in some quality time before this epic photo opp that I’ll be sharing with my mini-Meghjis one day.

Can you dig it Brother!!!!!!!    RM
