Dawn World Cup with BT Viewers!

posted on June 30th, 2010 - Filed in Uncategorized - 1 comment »

Rewind  2 weeks,  I didn’t really care about soccer. Did the World Cup awaken the interest – yes!

Having to report on it for Breakfast Television meant I had to do a little homework each night (maybe I can cover sports now on Sportsnet -kidding) but the real hype of World Cup for me was the fact that I got to watch it most mornings with our BT Viewers!

In case you missed  it, enjoy reminiscing about our coverage of World Cup the Breakfast Television way!

It all started with a visit to the Forum with Mexico and Uruguay! I even ran into a couple of superheros

Next, I went to Caffe Abbruzzo on Commercial Drive with Italy vs Slovakia, so many Italian fans- and the best tiramisu I have EVER had!

What?!?! did you say something? Yes, I do believe I suffered a bit of hearing loss at the Libra Room on Commercial as the Brazilians took on Portugal- WILD!

Slovakian fans were a bit more subdued in the game against the Netherlands – but Danube Restaurant in Burnaby treated us to some Slovakian Chow!

And how can we forget the Japan vs Paraguay game at Cafe Barcelona on Granville! Down to a shootout!

So yes, I really enjoyed covering World Cup the BT way, but it was not the sport that I enjoyed so much, as showing the enthusiasm of our  BT Fans!

G20 countries to half deficits by 2013……

posted on June 28th, 2010 - Filed in Uncategorized - 1 comment »

…..but you probably didn’t hear much about the result after this past weekend’s G20 summit was marred with pictures of police cars blazing, police using brutal force and imposters disguised as “protesters” damaging the city of Toronto and for what?

The idea of having the twenty most influential leaders together in one place is encouraging for the greater good, but why the bill for such an event exceeds a billion dollars of our tax money and why this meeting of the minds takes place in of the biggest metropolitan cities in Canada are big question marks that led to disdain.

I am sad as an opportunity was missed this weekend. The opportunity for peaceful protesters to truly have their voices heard in standing up for what they believe. Instead, a few black clad radicals spoiled the opportunity for debate with selfish actions of vandalism and destruction. Perhaps the system could be changed to allow more of a venue for voices to be heard so that when we look back at these Summits we could applaud progress rather than senseless violence.

Feel Good Friday

posted on June 25th, 2010 - Filed in Uncategorized - 1 comment »

Last Friday I was in Cabo soaking up the sun and this weekend, the first official weekend of summer, I’ll be doing the same in Vancouver. We had a great week on BT covering World Cup Fever and now that it’s down to the Final 16, the intensity will rise.

It’s hard to believe that today also marks the one year anniversary of the death of Michael Jackson. There is no doubt his legacy will continue to inspire the masses and musicians for years to come. He dreamed big, was passionate about his craft and one of the rarest talents we will ever see in our time. I’ll be spending many hours watching the specials dedicated to the man, as his life is the true definition of reality television.

Have a great weekend, see you bright and early Monday morning.

Keeping the Pride Alive!

Olympic ceremonies choreographer wants you for a 1,000-troupe flash mob dance for Canada Day

Marlise McCormick, the Associate Director of Choreography for the Vancouver Olympic Games opening and closing ceremonies, is putting out the call today for British Columbians to sign up and perform a 1000-troupe flash mob dance for the Canada Day ceremonies in Langley. The “Keep the Pride Alive” dance, inspired by the spirit and national pride of the 2010 Winter Games, will be set to an original song by award-winning songwriters Bob Buckley and Brian Gibson.

The  flash mob dance is an open invitation to all energetic British Columbians (15 years and up). No dance experience or skill is necessary.

“We want to reignite the passion and euphoric national pride we all felt during the Olympics,” said Martini. “We want to keep the pride alive with a spectacular performance of 1,000 British Columbians moving to an original song we commissioned celebrating Canada’s birthday.”

Songwriters Bob Buckley and Brian Gibson composed the new song “Keep the Pride Alive” and in French, “Une Fierté à Conserver,” which will be performed, along with the dance routine, three times during the Langley Canada Day Celebrations at McLeod Park, Canada’s largest two day celebration.

Rehearsals start Wednesday, June 23rd or Friday, June 25th.

All registered dancers are entered to win a trip for two anywhere Aeroplan Rewards flies.

British Columbians can sign up  here for the flash mob dance !

Good Luck!

Fellowship of the Vuvuzela

vuvuzela

Is the constant drone of the vuvuzelas at the World Cup games in South Africa getting on your nerves?  It sounds like some kind of mad bee army!  I’ve actually gotten quite used to them.  I prefer the chants and generic crowd noise normally but the vuvuzelas do create a unique atmosphere we’ve never experienced at the historic tournament.

Check out this very creative video that pairs Lord of the Rings with the dreaded horns!

Enjoy the matches!  Go ARGENTINA!!!

BT ON LOCATION

posted on June 22nd, 2010 - Filed in Uncategorized - 1 comment »

June 14-18 on BT was one of my favourite weeks. I love it when we go out on location and meet amazing people.

Which brings us to the first video:

1) A bus ride, a whole school of kids and a movie. That’s right. Dawn Chubai, Riaz Meghji and a wack of BT staff jumped on a bus, headed over to Florence Nightingale Elementary to pick up some very happy students. Then whisked them off to the Metrotown Cinemas for Toy Story 3. A lot of laughs, cute kids and happy people. What more could you ask for?

2) June 17, 2010 was National Recess Day.
The BT Hosts relived some of their childhood recess moments, games and traumas. Guess who was being a schoolyard bully?

3) On Friday we were live at False Creek, learning about Dragon Boating, blowing things up, and going head to head in a race for the ages. Well, maybe that’s over doing it a bit. But Greg Harper and his boat crew did challenge Kyle Donaldson and Dawn Chubai to a race for Dragonboat supremacy.
Associate Producer Genevieve Skelton shot flipcam video of some of the fun, Behind-the-Scenes, moments.

Until next week folks. Scroll through the videos BT Bites on BreakfastTelevision.ca for more great behind-the-scenes, celebrity interviews, News Updates and BT Bloopers.

Hello Friends,

Please check out this website and help my good buddies The Granger Brothers turn “The Charlie Da Clown Show” into a hilariously awesome weekly TV show.  Matty & Mike are relying on generous donations and need all the funding they can get.

Thanks!
